The ‘Gathering’, the largest concentration of Elephants in Asia, happens when over 300 elephants gather on the grassland that sprouts on the receding shores of Minneriya Lake. Featuring a good consistency of wetlands, montane forests and scrublands, Minneriya is arguably one of the most visited national parks in Sri Lanka.

Considered as a major eco-tourism venue, the Gal Oya National Park is rich in flora and fauna. Besides wildlife, Gal Oya is home to one of the Veddha clans in Sri Lanka. Veddhas are the indigenous people in Sri Lanka and they still live in the Nilgala area of the Gal Oya National Park.

Located in the southeast corner of Sri Lanka, the Kumana National Park is renowned as a bird sanctuary where large flocks of migratory waterfowl and wading birds can be seen.
